In March international students visited Saratov Harmonica Museum named after Andrey and Vladimir Komarov and Museum of Local Lore. Saratov Harmonica Museum was opened in 2013. Its rich collection contains musical instruments and archive materials, including photos of the most famous harmonica masters and moments of harmonica making, books about the instrument and some vinyl records. The students were impressed by Saratov harmonicas made in a single copy, for instance, a boot-shaped harmonica.
In the museum students learned about the history of Saratov harmonica, about people, who created and revived it, about Saratov harmonica ensembles. They also enjoyed the professional performance on the famous musical instrument, given by Saratov Conservatoire Professor Alevtina Mikhaylova, who also guided the excursion.
In the Museum of Local Lore students visited two interesting exhibitions. The first one «The Time Capsule» presented a collection of natural amber with different insects that have been kept inside the stone for millions of years. Every exhibit was put into the glass pyramid equipped with spotlights and jewelry lens system.
The second exhibition was «In one stroke... On the 140th anniversary of the Museum of Local Lore: 9 items from 9 branches». It presented bright and original exhibits, demonstrating the unique collection of each branch.
