113-anniversary of Saratov State L.V. Sobinov Conservatoire

On October 21, a large concert dedicated to 113-anniversary of Saratov State L.V. Sobinov Conservatoire took place in the Conservatoire Big Hall. The Russian Folk instruments orchestra directed by Prof. Kirill Ershov and Symphony orchestra directed by Kirill Kochetkov played at the concert. Professor Olga Skripinskaya (flute) played solo. Compositions of A. Borodin, P. Tchaikovsky, Y. Sibelius, A. Shnitke, P. Klimov, A. Tsygankov were performed.
Saratov Conservatoire was opened in 1912 and first was named after Prince Alexey Romanov. Its official name was Saratov Imperial Conservatoire named after Prince Alexey. The opening was preceded by years of development of musical education in Saratov region. In 1870s the branch of Imperial Musical Society was opened here. In 1902 its Musical Classes were transformed into Musical college. Saratov became the first city in Russian province, where Conservatoire was established. Three years earlier, in 1909 there was opened Saratov University. The first Russian stationary circus and public museum were also established in Saratov in the late XIX century.
Educational and cultural institutions created a unique atmosphere in Saratov. Though Saratov is a provincial city it keeps close relations with both Russian capitals – Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. Outstanding artists regularly perform in Saratov Conservatoire and other concert halls, annually a number of national and international festivals and competitions are held here. In Saratov there are several universities, where students can get education in almost any academic field; strong scientific and performing schools have been established here. Graduates of Saratov Conservatoire and Saratov universities work in different cities of Russia and all over the world.
